Did you know........
When I was a child, maybe around 8 years old I nearly drowned. I remember it as clear as day. A neighbor on our street in Dublin City always took a group of us kids from the road off to the beach. " Ask your Ma & Da for bus & train fare" she'd say & she took care of the rest. Off she would go on the public bus from the estate into Dublin City Centre & hop the train with us all to the beach.
It was always great craic! Then one day there was a few of us sitting across a big iron bar that sat out in The Atlantic Ocean a little. We were playing with the waves. Getting thrashed & trying to hold our own against them & not get knocked off. Then one just took me out! I flew backwards off the bar & went under. I remember the bubbles & the sound of thrashing underwater. Then within a few seconds I was grabbed by the arm by one of the older lads that was with us on the bar.
It was so scary! Since then, the fear of drowning has always being in my mind, hence why I am always cautious around water & so curious of her powers.
Although as a child we were taken to the local swimming pool often & put in swimming lessons, I just never fully got over that fear & me confidence as a swimmer in deep water goes & fear takes over still. I am gaining the courage to work on that & overcome those fears. I never stayed away from water, just always had me floaties on & as an adult always having me life jacket on.
Although this fear is there, being around water still is one of the only few things in life that calms my mind & helps me relax & be in the moment. I love it so much that I cannot describe it in words. I will always encourage people to step outside to explore nature & just enjoy being in the moment.
The Ocean, Lakes, Rivers, Waterfalls, any body of water give off its own natural medicine & I am taken it ALL in!
